TAS Two Year

You must love South Korea as much as we do!  Did you go for a year, and now you’re staying a few more? Want a Two Year Phone? Here’s How! 

Option 1:  Waiting for your ARC?  Need a phone while you wait? We've got you covered!

  • Order TAS Rental phone and view rates here, or simply add it to your order above.
  • After you place your Two Year order, look for the instructions we send you via email: all you need to do is complete a quick contract, and send copies of your (1) ARC and (2) Korean Bank Account information to phones@thearrivalstore.com.
  •  After you receive your Two Year Phone, mail your TAS Rental back to us (of course you can send the rental phone back to us at anytime you like):  
    • When you first receive your rental phone, please notice and save the included self-addressed package. Upon completion of your rental period, please put the phone in the original package and drop it off at any post office in Korea.

    • OR: Did your ARC come, but you still want to use the rental phone? No problem! Continue using your TAS Rental for as long as you’d like
  •  Once we receive your documents, look for your Two Year Phone in the mail within 2 business days!

Option 2:  Do you already have an ARC? Go directly to ordering a TAS Two Year Phone.

What if I go over my allotted minutes/texts?

Here is how overage breaks down for you:


For example: You went 100 minutes over on your plan.

100 minutes * 60 seconds = 6,000 seconds * 1.8  = 10,800 added to monthly bill.

*A good bench mark figure to remember: a minute over costs about 10 cents.*

Or:  You went over by 30 texts.

30 texts * 20 = 600 (only 50¢!)  added to monthly bill.

*In terms of texts, a good bench mark figure to remember is each outgoing text over the alotted 300 is about 2 cents each.*

*For MMS texts (pictures, voicememos, etc), a good bench mark is about 3 cents each*

Can I change my plan monthly service plan?  If it has been more than two months (60 days) since your contract start date, Then, yes! Call SK Telecom Customer Service at 080-252-5011.

Shipping

After we receive your documents, look for your phone in the mail within 2-4 business days.  In the unlikely circumstance that there is a delay, we'll let you know by email. 

Insurance 

While placing your order, you'll have an option to add T Smart Safe insurance. Insurance is available for activation only within the first month of your contract, so sign up quick!   

SKT T Smart Safe costs ₩5,000 per month. The details:

  • if you lose your phone, you'll only have to pay ₩150,000 for a replacement. T Smart Safe will cover anything beyond that first ₩150,000. 
  • if you lose your phone a 2nd time you'll pay ₩300,000 for your replacement, and T Smart Safe will cover the rest. 
  • maximum compensation at any given time is ₩900,000.
    • if you lose a phone worth ₩900,000, you'll only have to pay ₩200,000 to replace it (₩150,000 you pay + ₩50,000 over the ₩900,000 limit)

SKT T Phone Safe costs ₩2,000 per month. The details:

  • If your phone is damaged, there is a ₩50,000 deductible, meaning that the customer will need to pay for any repairs up to ₩50,000
  • Any expenses past ₩50,000, SKT T Phone Safe will cover up to ₩300,000 in damage. If damage cost go beyond that, the customer is responsible for additional fees.

 Contract

 This is a 2 year contract, signed with the Korean service provider SK Telecom.

What does a typical contract look like?  By subscribing with SK Telecom, you will have a range of plans to choose from, along with the phone of your choice. The purchase cost of the phone is offered at significant discount and is paid monthly throughout the two year contract. There are no upfront costs and The Arrival Store does not accept up-front payments for the device.

Am I able to do a one-year contract?  Unfortnately, 1 year contracts are not available under this program.  2 or 3 years is the standard contract time with SK Telecom. This allows you to take advantage of significant discounts to the cost of the phone, and to pay it off in small monthly payments. If you suspect you'll have to cancel your contract early, we'd strongly suggest the TAS Smart Phone program, with flexible 9-month contracts (no fees to extend), or the TAS Simple Phone program, with flexible 6-month contracts (no fees to extend). 

Can I terminate the contract before the contract ends?  Yes: after 3 months, you can end your contract. BE AWARE, you will be required to pay a termination fee and the balance on the retail cost of the device (calculated according to the prorated number of days remaining on the contract) and any other fees applied by SK Telecom. Keep in mind that retail costs of smart phones in Korea are anywhere between $600 - $1200.

Do I keep this phone?  Yes, this is your phone.  As long as you complete your contract you're free to bring the phone home with you, sell it, trade it, upgrade it, whatever you would like. 

Visas

Is my visa eligible?  SK Telecom offers contracts to the following visa holders:

  • E1: Professor
  • E2: Foreign language instructor
  • E7: Specialized
  • D8: Corporate
  • F2 - F5: Residence
  • Others: C1, D1, D5 - D9, E3 - E6, G1, H1, H2

It's important to note that SK has full discretion as to whether or not they will issue you a phone.  A credit check is run using your ARC card at which point they will accept or deny your application for the phone installment plan or contract.  This is not The Arrival Store's decision. 

Current SK Telecom Subscribers

I have a phone with SKT now: can I upgrade to a TAS Two Year phone?  Upgrades involve trading-in a current phone, while keeping the current phone line. Beause the TAS Two Year program establishes a new phone line, upgrading or switching over is not available.

I have a pre-paid line with SKT already: can I keep this number?  No, pre-paid lines cannot be transferred to the 3G network. You will need cancel/end your pre-paid line in advance, and apply for a new line with TAS.

I have a phone line with SKT: can I get a second line with The Arrival Store?   If you have an E2 or E7 visa, unfortunately, no. The SKT network permits one line per subscriber for all E-series visas. You will need to terminate your current line, pay any applicable balances, bills, installment payments, etc, before signing up for a new line through TAS. Make sure you clear your current account - we don't want your order with us to receive any blocks from SKT!

Troubleshooting 

Unlike the TAS Simple and Smart Phones, the 2 year and LTE plans do not include support.  We'll always do our best to assist you, but you'll need to work with SK or the phone manufacturer in Korea to get your phone service or device issues settled.  TAS will not have access to your billing records once the phone is issued.  Rest assured though, the SK and device support teams are very good and will be happy to assist you. 

  • SK Telecom Customer Service (080-252-5011) can help with questions regarding billing, ordering, service plans, etc - and they have English service available!

A few helpful hints:

  • 3G vs. “LTE”   Current smart phone technology uses either 3G or 4G (LTE) technology. Two Year devices are categorized as such. The iPhone 4S is a 3G phone, part of SK Telecom's network.

  • What is LTE?  Long-Term Evolution (LTE) downloads movies, apps, games and web at speeds up to 4 times faster than 3G. Its is the fastest wireless technology available today, and it offers a superior experience for customers using highly interactive applications like multi-player games and rich multimedia communications.
